About this task

Kurigram is known as one of the country’s poorer districts; papers in order for an allowance mean a great deal to many elders. With the ward member, a list of elders who need help, then a help day beside the union digital centre or council. Checking the name, parents’ names and date of birth on the ID card against other papers; putting every paper in one folder; and writing for each, on one page, where to go: for an ID correction, the Election Commission’s online service or the upazila election office; for an allowance, the online application or the upazila social services office.

Why it matters

One mistake in the name or age on an ID card holds up allowances, banking and treatment, and sends elders back to the office again and again. Many do not know which office does what, so they pay middlemen. With papers in order and the right office named, the job is done in one go.

What changes after

Papers of at least twenty-five elders in one folder each; each holds one page on where to go; where a mistake was found, they know where to have it corrected.

Who can join

Anyone patient who understands online services; better with someone from the elder’s family present.

What can go wrong, and what to do

  • Someone thinks the team will get them an allowance → Say plainly at the start: selection is by a government committee; we only sort papers.
  • A middleman or someone asking for money → Keep a sign on the table: no money is needed here. Anyone asked for money can report it on 333.
  • Papers going missing → Originals stay in the elder’s hands; the team keeps nothing.

Useful numbers

  • 333Government information, services and complaints
  • 999National emergency: police, fire, ambulance (free)

Questions people ask

Do we decide who gets an allowance?
No. A government committee checks and selects; this team only puts papers in order and shows the way. Promise nothing to anyone.
Does applying cost money?
Check fees on the office’s website or by calling 333; nobody on the team takes any money.
Can I join if I cannot stay the whole time?
Yes. Say in your request which step or which hours you can do. The lead will give that step to you.
