At the end of the year many homes have last year’s guidebooks, dictionaries, storybooks and half-empty exercise books lying about, while the pupil next door cannot afford them.
The idea: a book bank in a corner of a school, library or club room. At year’s end pupils hand in their old books, and in the new year whoever needs one signs the register and takes it. The blank pages of old exercise books, taken out and stitched together, make new ones.
Two pupils and one teacher look after it. No torn books or books with missing pages, and nobody pays to borrow.
