People needed to share gas stove and cylinder safety door to door

People are burned by fires and blasts from gas that builds up in kitchens. Many accidents come from not knowing a few simple rules: pressing a switch despite the smell, lighting the stove with doors and windows shut, never replacing an old pipe. How to help: go door to door in the neighbourhood, or speak at the mosque or courtyard meetings, and share a few rules. Open the doors and windows before lighting the stove. Keep the cylinder upright, where air moves. Look for leaks with soapy water, never a flame; if it bubbles, do not use it until a mechanic has seen it. If you smell gas, light nothing and press no electric switch; turn off the regulator, open the doors and windows and take everyone outside. Fire Service 16163, and 999 in an emergency. The full gas safety guide is on this site’s Learn page.
