Open manholes and deep potholes vanish under water in the monsoon, and pedestrians, rickshaws and motorbikes fall in and are hurt.
The idea: once a month a few people of the neighbourhood walk the area, photograph each such spot and note exactly where it is. Hand the list to the municipality, the city corporation or the upazila engineer’s office, and note when each is fixed.
Until then, a red cloth tied to a tall stick beside the spot warns people. Never go down a manhole yourself, or try to fit a cover yourself.
