A neighbourhood plan to store covered drinking water before storms
নাজমা আক্তার Desher Kaj team · 4 October 2026
In salty coastal areas, pond and tube-well water can stay undrinkable for days after a storm. Children and elders then fall ill, and people walk far for safe water.
Before the storm season, each family can keep a habit of filling clean, lidded pots or drums. The para picks one dry, raised spot where extra water and purification tablets or alum are kept for all, and a written rota shows who changes the water and when.
You need some lidded containers, a raised dry place and two or three people willing to look after it. Invite everyone to a short meeting before the rains.
