A stairwell talk on what to do in an earthquake in tall buildings
মো. ফয়সাল আহমেদ Desher Kaj team · 12 October 2026
In tall city buildings many families live together. When shaking starts, some take the lift, some run down, some rush to the window. Those habits add to the danger.
Once a year, residents can sit at the foot of the stairs one evening and talk it through: drop and cover under a sturdy table, never use the lift, go down the stairs calmly once it stops. Decide who shuts the gas line and the main switch, and check that stairs and exits are not blocked with stored things.
You need a few interested residents and half an hour. Practise with children as a small game.
