A holiday science-experiment session in an open field

In many schools science is only read from the book, with little chance to see it done. Pupils find it hard and lose interest, yet many experiments need only ordinary household things. On a holiday morning, set up a session in a field or school veranda. The science teacher or college students show simple experiments with bottles, balloons, mirrors, seeds and soil, such as how a seed sprouts or how light bends. Children do it themselves and ask questions. Take one topic each time. You need old household items, a shaded place and two or three keen teachers or volunteers.
