A storytelling hour in two languages for hill children
জয়ন্ত চাকমা Desher Kaj team · 6 October 2026
Many hill children speak one language at home and meet another at school. At first they cannot follow, grow afraid and fall behind, while stories in their home language slowly fade.
One afternoon a week, hold a story hour. A grandparent or teacher first tells a story in the home language, then the same story in simple Bangla. Children match words across both. Simple drawings can show the story.
You need a shady spot or a room, mats and a few elders who know stories. Treat all languages with equal respect.
