A drop box for old phones, chargers and batteries
অর্ণব দত্ত Desher Kaj team · 20 October 2026
In the port city, broken phones, chargers and batteries are thrown out with ordinary rubbish. They leak harmful material into soil and water.
Place a sturdy lidded box at a neighbourhood grocery or school gate, with a clear label of what may go in. Once a month a volunteer empties it and takes the contents to a repair shop or a collector who handles such items. Note too that batteries are never to be burnt or broken open.
You need one box, the shopkeeper's consent, and one regular volunteer.
