An afternoon of learning traditional weaving from grandmothers
শিউলি মারমা Desher Kaj team · 13 October 2026
In hill villages the elders who know back-strap loom weaving are growing old and the young do not learn it. The skill could vanish.
Once a week in the afternoon grandmothers sit in one room and teach girls and granddaughters. They tell the stories of the yarn, colours and patterns. When learned, small bags or shawls can be shown at the village fair.
You need a large room or veranda, a few looms, yarn, and the elders' interest.
