A short storm-signal drill at school

Many coastal children do not know what the signal numbers or flags mean. In a storm they get scared and do not know what to do. Once a month, hold a 15-minute drill at school. The teacher shows the signal flag or picture and pupils say what it means. Then they practise moving in line to a safe place. The children carry the message home to their families. You need the head teacher's permission, signal pictures or a poster, and a short schedule. Local disaster volunteers can help.
