A school vegetable garden tended by pupils
হালিমা খাতুন Desher Kaj team · 9 October 2026
Textbooks teach about plants, soil and manure, but there is little chance to see it first-hand. Many schools also have empty land lying unused.
Make a small vegetable garden in a corner of the school. Give classes turns for sowing seed, watering and weeding. Tie it to science and maths lessons by measuring growth or counting yield. Sometimes share the harvest with the school's children.
You need a bit of land, seeds, a hoe and watering can and an interested teacher. Parents can help with fencing.
