A small emergency fund for the family

When sudden illness, house repairs or crop loss strike, there is no cash at hand. People borrow at high interest and carry the burden for months. Every week or month set aside a small amount you can manage, to be used only for emergencies. First aim for one month's basic expenses. Keep it safe, at home or in a bank. If you spend it, rebuild it slowly. You need a separate pot or bank account and the whole family's agreement. A few families can encourage each other.
