About this task
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital serves many patients from the north; urgent blood is needed almost daily. A list of the area’s willing blood donors with their groups, each with written consent, kept by two coordinators and never published. It starts with a free blood grouping camp alongside a hospital or recognised organisation.
Why it matters
When blood is suddenly needed after an accident, a birth or for a thalassaemia patient, families post on Facebook and search for hours. A checked local list finds a donor in minutes.
What changes after
At least fifty donors on the list with consent; the coordinators’ numbers known at the hospital and mosque; updated every three months.
Who can join
Anyone can organise; donors are healthy people aged 18 to 60.

Getting ready, step by step
3 weeks before
- Apply to the upazila health complex, the district hospital blood bank or the Red Crescent district unit for a grouping camp.
- Note what they bring and what we provide (tables, chairs, water).
10 days before
- Fix a venue: a school, club or mosque veranda, with shade and water.
- Make the consent form: name, group, phone, last donation date, “only the coordinators keep this number”, and a signature.
3 days before
- Announce by mike, at the mosque and on WhatsApp.
- Choose the two coordinators who will keep the list.
Camp day
- Only the hospital's or organisation's trained staff do the test; volunteers handle the queue, forms and water.
- Take signed consent from those willing to be donors.
The week after
- The two coordinators sort the list by group and keep it in separate books.
- Share only the coordinators' numbers with the mosque, pharmacy and nearest hospital.
Who does what
Coordinator2
Keeps the list, rings a donor on an urgent request and, if they agree, gives the hospital's address; updates every three months.
Registration table1
Runs the queue, explains and fills consent forms, takes signatures.
Welcome and support1
Water, seating, helping the health staff.
Whom to speak to first
Upazila health complex or district hospital blood bank
- Why
- Grouping must be accurate, and blood is drawn only there.
- How
- Give a written request to the upazila health officer or the blood bank's officer in charge.
Red Crescent district unit or a recognised donor organisation
- Why
- They often run free grouping camps.
- How
- Visit the office and propose a date and venue.
School, college or club management
- Why
- They have the venue and the young donors.
- How
- Write to the head teacher or president.
The day, hour by hour
- 08:30Tables, chairs, banner and forms set out.
- 09:00Welcome the health staff; give them space and light.
- 09:30Registration and grouping begin.
- 11:00Willing donors sign; the health staff explain how often one may donate.
- 12:30Last registration.
- 13:00Count: how many grouped, how many listed; thank the health staff.
- 13:30Consent forms sealed in an envelope and given to the coordinators.
How to take the proof
- The banner and queue, with the health staff at work; ask before showing anyone's face.
- A photo of the stack of consent forms in which no name or number can be read.
- A summary: how many of each group and the total, with no personal details.
Common first-time mistakes
- Volunteers pricking fingers to test groups themselves; that is for trained health staff only.
- Posting the whole list on Facebook.
- Listing someone without their own consent, or on a relative's word.
- Not keeping the last donation date, and calling someone again too soon.
What can go wrong, and what to do
Donor numbers leak to scammers.
The list stays with the two coordinators only; never in a group, post or on a wall. If it leaks, warn the donors.
Someone faints at the camp.
Lay them down with legs slightly raised and call the health staff; 999 in an emergency.
Someone asks for or offers money for blood.
Say clearly the list is only for free, voluntary donation; remove such a donor.
The list goes stale; donors fall ill or move.
Ring to update every three months; record each last donation date.
Ready words to send
Copy, fill the [brackets], send.
Camp invitation (WhatsApp/Facebook)
Know your blood group, free. [date], 9:30 am to 1 pm, [place]. Trained health staff from [kind of hospital/organisation] will do the test. Healthy people aged 18 to 60 may join the area's donor list if they wish. The list stays with two coordinators only and is never published. Blood is drawn only at a hospital or blood bank. To volunteer, send a request on the task page on Desher Kaj. No money is needed.

After it is done
- Every three months the two coordinators reconcile and update the list; remove anyone who asks at once.

- Run a grouping camp once a year to add new donors.
Questions people ask
How often can one donate?
Usually a healthy man every three months, a woman every four. A doctor has the final word.
Do we put the list online?
No. Scammers misuse donor numbers. Only the coordinators’ numbers are public.
Can I join if I cannot stay the whole time?
Yes. Say in your request which step or which hours you can do. The lead will give that step to you.
