A helmet on every ride, for rider and passenger
In a motorcycle crash, a head injury is the greatest danger. Near or far, rider and passenger both wear a good helmet, with the strap fastened.

Many of those who die or are disabled for life in motorcycle crashes are hurt in the head. A helmet worn properly greatly lowers the risk of a serious head injury.
A helmet works only when it fits the head and the chin strap is fastened. One hung on the arm or worn loose comes off in a crash. Not a thin plastic cap; buy a sturdy helmet of a recognised standard. Replace a helmet after one hard knock.
Never ride without it because “it is only nearby”; many crashes happen close to home. Keep a helmet for the passenger too, and give children one their own size.
