Compost from kitchen scraps

Abir · 13 October 2026

Vegetable peel, fruit skins, tea leaves and eggshells thrown out with the rubbish smell and end up in the drains. Yet they make good manure for plants. The idea: in a corner of the yard or on the roof, collect raw kitchen scraps in a covered container or a small pit, add dry leaves or soil now and then, and turn it from time to time. In a few months it becomes crumbly dark compost. No fish, meat, oil or plastic. If a few homes in the neighbourhood start together, they can show one another. Do not let rainwater stand in the container, so mosquitoes cannot breed.
