Covering date-palm sap and boiling it before drinking
সুব্রত কুমার পাল Desher Kaj team · 16 October 2026
Drinking raw date-palm sap is common in villages in winter. But in open pots, bats or insects can foul the sap, and that carries a risk of illness.
Talk with the sap collectors first. Ask them to cover the pot mouth with a bamboo basket or a net. At a courtyard meeting, tell everyone it is better to boil the sap before drinking, and make sure children and elders hear it. With a health worker's advice you can draw a simple poster.
You need a few collectors' agreement, a little bamboo or netting for covers and one courtyard meeting.
